Being a Church Musician

Image
Being a church musician is a different thing. I come here about two hours every day to try to continue to grow and learn different things about my instrument. But on Sunday, it doesn't matter really if I can play this cool chord or play a certain group of notes 2% faster than last week. On Sunday, there are people with all kinds of things on their mind. Money, family, etc, things we don't know about. They sre coming here looking for answers, looking for God in their lives. So  we just try to help people put their focus on God and try to inspire them to do and be their best for another week. Maybe I don't get to try out all my jazz chops and licks. But if someone can be inspired to live into their life and their calling and live into their relationship with God, and if I in anyway helped that, that's what really counts. Did you notice the cross on the back wall? Keep your focus on the cross!

Dancing Girl

The music, time and place is right She's dressed right for the night. If she's feeling right tonight She will get up and move to the floor She's a dancing girl She is a dancing girl I love watching her She's a mix of quiet nobility She's a lady, a queen But when the music plays She lets it go She's a dancing girl She is the dancing girl. I wonder when the time is right I think she's looking over here I'm not the kind that just walks to a stranger's table. My friend says go with the flow Not sure where the flow is going or if it's gone. She's a dancing girl She is a dancing girl

It's Amazing

It's amazing. You can be living your life, day in and day out. You think you have it figured out, everything is fine. Then a moment in time comes along and changes everything that you thought you knew. A moment so profound it cannot be unseen. You are changed. I am changed. We are changed. It's so amazing and wonderful, there are no words and lots of words for it, all at the same time. What was important is not important anymore. What was not important is most important. Whatever it is, and whatever it will be, one thing is sure- Everything is okay and Everything will be ok. It's amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Two Beautiful, Too Beautiful Flowers

Two beautiful, too beautiful, Two beautiful. too beautiful flowers. Two beautiful. too beautiful, Two beautiful, too beautiful flowers And I wish this Sunday afternoon would last forever I always want to spend my Sunday afternoons with you. Look at them playing in the park That red train will take them Wherever they imagine that it will Walking on the bridge, or playing in the water, Both competing to be the happiest girl in the world Time goes by so fast when I'm with you It seems like forever until I can see you again Soon enough it will be Sunday again I'll be with you always in my heart Until Sunday comes around

Casual Strangers

Casual Strangers A permanent moment in time. That timing was wrong, But in my dreams we belong There we are never Casual Strangers As I looked in your glorious eyes. We talked about No-vember, last year. I was a captive to fear. You were so very near, I wish you could have waited, had waited for me. I wish I could have gotten there faster, I wish I could have answered you I wish it was all different. I wish we had No-vember I wish we could have Yes-vember. Now all we can be is what we are- Casual Strangers. Casual Strangers, A you and I where there is no us. I am here and you are somewhere I want to be the somewhere where you are

There's This Girl

There's this girl. There's always a girl.  There's always the sun in the morning, There's always the wind,  There's usually always something to deal with.  And there's this girl.  We yearn for all kinds of different things. We can't find the answers to the questions we have And find answers for the ones we don't.   We plead for things we don't need  And try to get rid of those things most valuable to us.  We are afraid of those blessings that might help us  And cling to those things that would kill us.  We wake up, go to sleep. We call it- Life.  She's so very beautiful.  I once rode my bicycle deep into a wooded forest.  Not really a forest, but you might think of it like that. I was hot so I stopped- but I only got hotter and started sweating.  When I was riding the wind in my face kept me cool.  When I stopped, so did the wind.  I love her eyes and I still love her hair.  I don't

Big Dam Bridge 100 2017

The Big Dam Bridge 100 is Arkansas' largest bicycle event. It hosted over 3300 riders this year and its name honors Arkansas' most amazing structure, the Big Dam Bridge. Offering ride options from a mile to 100 miles, riders come from all over to ride. It is not a race and no awards are given to the one who finishes first. Riders ride as a team or as solo riders. Support is offered throughout the ride. Every ten miles, cyclists can refill bottles with water and Gatorade and eat peanut butter sandwiches, oreos, pickles, pickle juice, oranges and bananas at volunteer staffed aid stations. Sag wagons are provided for cyclists unable to finish and officials monitor the course and maintain radio communications to ensure everything runs safe and all runs smooth. Because I teach every Saturday and most events are held on Saturday, the BDB 100 is the only ride out of the year I participate in. The only other event I have ridden in is the Tour De Delta, in 2012. It is a metric c
